Raju one day questioned his dad: “why do we need to read and know news?” His father thought for a while and replied:” Imagine a pot of curry. It includes several ingredients like turmeric, mustard, vegetables, tamarind, coriander leaves etc. When we consume it as a whole, we don’t really identify and appreciate the distinctive flavor that each ingredient has. However we come to notice it only when it is missing and we then realize that the curry is bland and incomplete without it. Coming back to reality, the various news articles that you read form our world; to put it simply it reflects what is happening around us, protects us from the deep pit of ignorance, enriches our knowledge and hence in a way becomes our identity………
Listening to his advice I have decided to give you all a brief sneak peek into how April (not the spring goddess) has been so that we realize that we are infact a part of this huge community called the earth currety facing the brunt (god knows why) of the virus and can actually analyze how things are …..
SECTION 1: US
April 1st: Welcome Truth Media
While the people of the world celebrated April fools day and the new financial year in their own unique way, Tarun Gopinath and Hafsah wanted to create something special which could truly have an everlasting impact. Their creativity, dedication and their desire to create a change led to the birth of truth media, an online blog specially meant to deliver the truth and nothing less than that. With over a hundred members, several likes and shares and most importantly the wonderful posts, it is sure to reach great heights.
SECTION 2: POLITICS
April 3rd: Second in the race……
After the US’s conspiracy theories against China, Scott Morrison , the Australian PM went on to blame the wet markets of China for the spread of the novel corona virus. He stated "Wet markets are a very real and significant problem wherever they exist,". He further urged international organizations like the UN and the WHO to take immediate action and ban these markets. He concluded by reiterating that “ these markets posed great risks to the health and wellbeing of the rest of the world." Hmm bad news continuously seems to be mounting up for China….
April 8th Politicos have it their way…
When the entire world is embracing lockdown, seems like several politicians have breached norms and have violated their quarantine period. Number 1 on this list is Ivanka Trump. According to a report she accompanied by her husband (her fellow administrative advisor) Jared Kushner and her three children took a flight from Washington DC to New Jersey. This comes during a time when the US is facing the complete wrath of the pandemic with death tolls mounting up to 37000. The sad part is that the White House had to somehow defend this trip by coming up with a lame excuse on how much Ivanka needed family time too and that she had gone to celebrate pass over.
Also Nikhil Kumaraswamy, the son of ex CM HD Kumaraswamy got married on 17th April with an attendance of about 80 guests but this breaks all rules. While 12 people were arrested in Gujarat for doing something on the same lines, seems like this lad got away because of his influential background. Not fair at all guys.
SECTION 3: BUSINESS
April 17th: RBI becomes Indian economy’s shaktimaan
The RBI governor Shaktikanta Das announced a second package of Rs I lakh crore providing relief to small scale businessmen lenders and borrowers. According to this package 50000 crores are to be made available to NBFCs and MFIs with the aim of maintaining a healthy cash flow. The focused liquidity support is especially for the lenders because they weren’t granted any relief on their financial obligations. Seems like they can finally heave a sigh of relief after all.
On the other hand, Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister announced that the government was ready with a package 2.0 worth 1.7 trilion. Though it mounts up to only 0.8 percent of the GDP, the government assures that this move will lead to the relaxation of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) and it will definitely help as economic activity is set to resume in the rural and the industrial areas. Does look like they have a tie up with the guardians of the galaxy….
SECTION 4: SPORTS
A huge smash for Wimbledon guys!
For the first time since the world war 2, one of the largest grass court tournaments, wimbledon has been cancelled. While initially there were hopes that it could somehow pull of( 29th June to 12th July) , the All England Lawn Tennis Club made a statement saying that it would be “ impossible" to conduct given the current circumstances. Following this move the men's ATP tour and the women's WTA tour has also been suspended until further notice.
Here is something reassuring though; in Turkmenistan, one of the few central Asian countries which hasn't been hit by the corona, a football match took place recently between the Altyn Asyr and the Kopetdag (two local clubs) with an attendance of 500. This does symbolize hope and yes it sure is an indication that things will return back to normalcy.
SECTION 5: WHAT IS TRENDING?
No folks not on social media but on truth media…. Dalgona coffee is really testing the patience of our taste buds, racers are telling us that though they are experts their journey wasn’t easy, Kolkata and Assam flaunt their rich culture awaiting our arrival, films and books constantly make an appearance telling us that they are our true mates during the quarantine, engaging concepts like fiscal deficit, ,Mandela effect and spine chilling incidents like the burari and the sterlite case. Folks what is the hurry, this is just a small and an insignificant jest of the treasure that lies within…..
By now all of you must be exhausted ( both with my article and the corona)but here is the conclusion. April has been very tiring and many are wearied out with long battle. However the road is long( there was a shock today, after 4 days of successful containment yesterday there was a spike in the corona cases in India) and definitely filled with huge uncertainties. But yes whenever you feel that your life is a curse, here is something to set you back on track. Read this quote( read the news too, a very good habit folks).
“ The best view comes after the hardest climb".
