plus known for its flagship level phones at a price less than that of other manufacturer’s flagship devices till last year grabbed the headlines this year with their one plus 8 series mobiles launched at prices that were on par with its competitors. Though even after weeks of launch OnePlus didn’t step out of the spotlight because of its so called new camera filter. The OnePlus 8 Pro is asserted to have the ability to see through quite a list objects, thanks to its built-in Color Filter camera sensor.
The reports of OnePlus 8 Pro claiming to have the so called X-Ray ability started emerging online after some users on Reddit said they were able to see internal components of devices such as remote controls using the Color Filter camera of the OnePlus 8 Pro. Users posted images and videos for proof to show that they were able to see through an Apple TV and some models remote controls of television and displays. However, it was found out that it happened due to an infrared sensor available on the OnePlus phone that was able to show the internals as the Apple TV is made of an infrared transmissible plastic. However, during the launch of OnePlus 8 Pro, their Head of Corporate PR Rayan Fenwick defined the Color Filter camera sensor as “a unique color filter camera that enables you to express the artist within through its lighting effects and filters.”
Though, OnePlus hasn't yet provided any details about how the Color Filter camera uses its prowess to achieve this. So with the infrared support on the Color Filter camera, the OnePlus 8 Pro may allow scanning of certain objects since the IR emitted from the sensor can pass through many synthetic fabrics and other materials that don't allow visibility through the naked eye. Since this isn’t new to the world of user tech that could see through objects if we consider the example of Sony In 1998, reportedly recalled particular models of its camcorders due to having “x-ray” capabilities through an infrared-backed night vision technology.
But, one can safely bet that the OnePlus 8 Pro cannot be used as an x-ray machine or to let you see through everything you have in your home because the people who scanned certain objects have also reported that they weren't able to see through many of the objects since that was not the purpose of the camera sensor to fulfill and to the some of you who thought that this sensor and the filter implementation is a gift from OnePlus, I would you would’ve to wait a tad longer as OnePlus has announced on Weibo that it would be disabling the X-ray feature on the OnePlus 8 Pro's color filter lens in an upcoming update. So before a whole bunch of the users out there could get the experience of something new and never seen before kind of camera filter, It would have disappeared without out a trace from the camera settings, leaving us to expect it in near future where OnePlus could fit the use of this filter in the camera settings where it is no more a controversial topic.
