The world that we live in has evolved in a way to only suit speed in each and every aspect of life. Humans have time and again fallen in love with “racing ahead" and for this very reason they are ready to tackle the innumerable odds lined up on their path. Speed has been ingrained in our current lifestyle for which a suitable metaphor would be a bullet train. Let us also not forget the sheer brilliance of the human brain that has led to massive simplification of age old concepts and procedures which were extremely strenuous as well as time-consuming where speed has acted as a definite stimulant.
It cannot be denied that a supposed scarcity of time has been the root cause for this. People today visualize time as this never ending marathon that slowly but slyly keeps slipping out of our hands whenever we begin to think as if we are getting the hang of it. We ultimately begin to feel like this cartoon character Tom who is doomed to chase Jerry( time of course) all his life.
Doesn't this seem monotonous and totally pointless after a period of time?
Does it really bear the fruit capable of giving us permanent satisfaction ?
This is a rhetoric that none of us can dismiss but a dilemma that all of us are truly helpless to go about. Amidst this huge confusion will you believe me if I tell you that this so called villain time has something completely different in store for us.
Time has been one of my greatest idols and before you can intervene let me move on to defend my argument. Time pushes us to keep working meticulously towards our goal, it teaches us to tolerate and endure problems in a spirited manner when darkness starts descending from all sides and finally it heals us from the most disastrous wounds that anyone or anything can inflict. However there is so much beyond that and if you're wondering why I even bothered to write this article then here is your answer:
Time has taught me to measure anything and everything in life primarily by its quality and not the quantity. This implies that it is simply my choice at the end of the day whether I want to be a workaholic or a carefree person, if I want to keep earning millions or want to settle down for a few thousands(despite having the resources to do the former) . Just like utility in economics what ultimately matters at the end of the day is your feedback for it and not a number of highly set standards by the society. Time has never assigned us a ‘to do' list for us. So when you feel like you want to do absolutely nothing and just take a huge break then time is there by you mate. Who said doing nothing means disrespecting time? After all it does take time to learn to do even nothing taking into the account the express train speed that our brains are tuned to.
Note: this is your answer the next time someone even thinks of equating doing nothing to wasting time.
•Time has inspired me to drop: the heavy baggage of expectation, the permanent headache ‘ego' and the throbbing thirst within us that repeatedly longs for a taste of success. We need to learn to unload all of this slowly for it is an accepted fact that every single quality serves a purpose in our life but beyond that it slowly starts becoming toxic. It has to be revoked now and then yes point agreed but with accordance to time. Hence time here acts as this regulator that consistently takes calculated moves to keep all our emotions in check . So it paves way for any human action or reaction. Three cheers to our engine and extremely efficient control room, the very great Time!
Finally it is permanent and so very sensible for it never forgets to pause(after successfully dealing with a million problems) and start afresh every 24 hours. Its energetic nature never fails to fill us with enthusiasm and again it keeps reiterating to us that it is in abundance to help us realize a few things in our life: time gradually makes us drop our fear, our apprehension at the prospect of starting something new and the need to seek an external validation for all of our actions . It wants us to take life easy so we can actually spend it fruitfully. When everyone around us get tired, hopeless and are no longer in a position to help us out, it is our faithful companion time who patiently waits upon and it offers not a recovery but a permanent cure. At the end only time is capable of making us feel like winners.
Time and tide waits for none . I bring this quote out for I believe that this is time's feeble attempt to match us, the ultra fast humans. It can make you go philosophical like it very evidently did to me but finally its goal is that it doesn’t want all of us to miss out on enjoying the journey in pursuit of our destiny. I would hence like to conclude with this beautiful quote by Carl Sandburg:
“ Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it can be spent. Be careful lest you led other people to spend it on you."
Those who value time ..... Know how to make time, so true, time and ride wait for none. It's we who have to decide what needs our time and make the most of it. This has been your most thought provoking article for me.
Good job Deepta.. A single short topic but Ur writing flows superbly and you are able to carry the reader along..
the last quote is so ON POINT!!!!!
It's high time we give this profound thought a backward glance . How well you have brought out the true essence of time. Time and again we realise that time is the greatest healer of all!! Loved this write up and the quote you ended with.
