Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi reopens after over 3 months of closure


Humayun’s Tomb in India’s Delhi reopened on Monday (July 6) after being shut over three months due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tomb was closed in mid-March to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.


Indian officials said all guidelines, including social distancing and sanitation measures, will be followed at the heritage site. Wearing masks will be mandatory.

 

Humayun's tomb is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi, India. It was commissioned by Humayun's first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum who is also known as Haji Begum in 1569-70.


The landmark tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and since then it has undergone extensive restoration works. It is one of the world's largest red-sandstone garden-tomb structure of its kind.

 

So far, India confirmed a total of 697.413 COVID-19 cases and 19.693 deaths, according to the data compiled by John Hopkins University in the U.S.
