Do you know the definition of friendship?

A movie review on Thalapathi, by MathiRaj

Friendship and gangsterism may sound like two different ends, but friendship in gangsterism sounds idea. Thalapathi, directed by Mani Ratnam is a movie which deals with a similar story line. This 1991 release is one of the tamil classics that stars Superstar Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Arvind Swamy, Shobana, Srividya and Bhanupriya in major roles. The songs and music works in the movie must be given a round of applause after the acting and direction. The melodies in the movie still lives amongst the Gen-Z and millennials. This movie unlike other Super Star films did not have much of the style and heroism, but a lot of acting and emotions. The plot deals with Surya, (Rajinikanth) who is the abandoned son of Kalyani (Sridivya). He is brought up as brave man who stands up for the poor in a slum area. Standing up against injustice, he crosses the way of Deva, (Mammootty) a powerful gangster. After initial clashes, Deva accepts Surya in his gang. This leads to the development of a strong bonding and friendship between Deva and Surya. When their criminal atrocities go overboard, the area gets a new collector in charge, Arjun, (Arvind Swamy) who happens to be the second son of Kalyani! Since Surya is in Deva’s side, Arjun happens to become his enemy. What will happen next in this plot, which is similar to that of ‘Karnan’. Will Surya know that he is opposing his own younger brother? Will he stop due to the blood relation or will he show his loyalty to his friendship, there is only one way to find out, check out this amazing tamil classic film. Remember the name, Thalapathi.
