You must be living under a rock if you haven't heard about this one because this drink has sure taken the internet by storm. Every time a person refreshes their feed, they're likely to see a new cup of coffee.
For those of you actually haven't heard of it, Dalgona Coffee is supposed to be a Korean coffee-based drink. Although it's supposed to be Korean, the origin of this eye-pleasing treat has been traced to parts of India, Pakistan, and China (Macau) where it's popularly known as beaten or whipped coffee. It was popularized by Jung II Woo, the famous South Korean actor who found it astonishingly similar to Dalgona- a Korean sponge candy, made from just sugar and baking soda. The name Dalgona is derived from the word 'Dalgoona' -meaning sweet.
Thus, the satiating libation initially whisked about the Korean subcontinents before stirring the whole world. It is rather easy to make and essentially requires only three everyday ingredients; sugar, coffee, and water taken in equal measures. It is also known as the 400 coffee because of the mythical belief that the coffee would attain its correct consistency only when whipped 400 times. Unlike other coffee drinks, where froth comes from aerated milk, in Dalgona, the three ingredients are just whipped together and served with hot or cold milk. As satisfying as it looks, not everybody's tastebuds seem to appreciate the beverage. It looks perfect on people's feeds and takes very little preparation time if you use a hand mixer. And it posed as a major online trend to the people who have been quarantined due to the ongoing worldwide lockdown owing to COVID-19. Maybe it is time to grab a cup of coffee and stay safe at home. But is it being over popularised? Has dalgona coffee become a mere style statement for the "influencers"?
FOMO .....yes even I tried this overrated Dalgona coffee !😂 Simplest to make and photogenic too but then as you mentioned it is a mere distraction from other pressing issues😒
