While most of the globe is still battling the dreaded Corona, China seems to have recovered and the government authorities recently confirmed that they have finally contained the spread of the virus. Domestic flights have resumed operation, markets and businesses are teeming with life again and the Great Wall has opened its gates to local tourists. While the country is being lauded for its spirit and its successful efforts, it is also facing a backlash at the same time. Global media has criticized China accusing the country for concealing information about the virus, silencing doctors, asserting censorship, spreading misinformation and for hiding test results. Several organizations and media houses including THE WION have called this a conspiracy and have voiced out that there is a greater truth that needs to be unleashed. On the global front, the US-CHINA trade relations have worsened. The Trump administration has openly called the coronavirus a China virus with Trump himself bolding retorting” China has to pay for this” and this has become a visible diplomatic clash. China has another reason to cheer on the economic front. According to a survey conducted by CNBC, production in the manufacturing sector has increased in March with China exporting around 14 million masks a day and medical equipment to various countries. While it was initially a complete blow, the economy seems to be reviving and The National Bureau of Statistics said it may improve in the second quarter, as businesses return to work and as various policy measures, including interest rate cuts, liquidity injections and cuts to taxes and fees, filter through the economy.
