A book review on The Sialkot Saga, by MathiRaj
The quarantine has provided us unbelievable amounts of unexpected holidays. It can’t be called holidays as such as we cannot explore the world with our friends, but still we can explore other worlds. You got me, books! What other way is there to explore worlds that never existed other than through books. That is how I came across this amazing book, The Sialkot Saga. This novel written by Indian author Ashwin Sanghi is one of the books in his Indian series. The book had me totally engaged right from the beginning. As it unfolds, the plot covers various places and events happening since 1950s. The atmosphere and surroundings were very well brought out by the author, the attentions to details were just mind-blowing. The plot deals with two protagonists, Arbaaz and Arvind. Arvind, a well-educated boy from a middle class family in Kolkatta, while Arbaaz is the son of a wage worker who lifts goods at the Mumbai port. However, both the boys come to a conclusion that the amount of money required to please their desires can not be made unless they hustle illegally. This twisted tale mixed with faith and fate narrates us the thrilling story of Arbaaz and Arvind side by side, it truly held me anxious of what is going to happen next. I would say this book is not a suitable one for really young people. But seriously though, despite five hundred odd pages, I recommend this book for the twist it had towards the end. It was simply mind-blowing!
